Gecko Yachts is owned and operated by Luca Repetto, a professional Italian sailor who developed his technical expertise during 40+ years of racing and working in the sailing world.
As a sailor, Luca Repetto participated in the most important national and international Regattas, including two “Whitbread Round the World Race” (now titled “Volvo Ocean Race”). He took part in five world championships, with three medal positions. He won a European championship, two Italian championships, the Fastnet, and many other Offshore and Inshore Races.
Luca Repetto has been the helmsman of the fastest racing boats, for which he managed the building, tuning and customizing of specific technical solutions. Among those are: “Maxi I.O.R. Gatorade”, “Bill Lee 50 Orchidea”, “Volvo 60 Brooksfield”, “Maxi Charle Jourdan”, “Vallicelli 65 Msabu”, “Open 60 Junoplano”, “Far 80 One Design”, “Orma 60 Fujicolor”.
With a long agonistic career as a sailor, since 1983 Luca Repetto started his own business in the yachting field. He was the Owner and Managing Director of “DOFI S.r.l.” (Italy), and “Gecko S.a.r.l.” (France), both working in the yachting field; refitting, rigging, deck hardware, and sales. With the latter, he was the Hanse best dealer in the years 2004 and 2005. Luca Repetto also worked as the Managing Director of “CCT” La Ciotat (France), a carbon mast production company. Recently he opened “Gecko Yachts” in Greece.
Luca Repetto has worked as a project manager and technical consultant for many large yacht projects. The last big challenge was the total refitting of the 42m Sailing Vessel “Dione Star” where he engineered the lengthening of 4.5m in its middle portion.
Luca Repetto’s knowledge and professional experience not only spans sailing, but every aspect of a sailboat, from research, design and production, rigging, refitting, deck hardware, repairs, safety and performance improvements, solar charging systems, and general maintenance issues.
Over his 40+ year career, Luca Repetto has established relationships with many highly respected corporations and people in the sailing industry. He has lead projects in the best yards of the world, like Tencara (IT), Green Marine (UK), Derecktor (USA, FL), and cooperating with top quality brands like Harken, Spinlock, Doyle Sails, Gottifreddi e Maffioli, and Maxspar.
